Bodø, fish disease, salmon farming

Infectious salmon anaemia is suspected at the Storvika fish farm in Skjerstadfjorden, in Bodø municipality, NRK reports.

Wenberg Fiskeoppdrett AS and Salten Stamfisk AS operate salmon production at the facility.

The Norwegian Food Safety Authority was notified by the Veterinary Institute on 12 August after positive test results were found in fish samples. The authority will now conduct its own tests to confirm or rule out the diagnosis.

Restrictions have been imposed at the facility to prevent possible spread of the disease, including a ban on moving fish without special permission. Everyone travelling in the area is urged to exercise caution.

If the suspected infection is confirmed, a restriction zone is expected to cover an area within a radius of 10 to 20 kilometres of the facility.
