Twenty-four buses operated by Icelandia left BSÍ at 9 a.m. carrying more than 1,200 foreign visitors to Snæfellsnes to watch a total solar eclipse, mbl.is reported.

Icelandia said preparations for the event had been under way for more than 16 months, in close cooperation with Snæfellsbær and residents of Rif. Food and toilet facilities will be available for the visitors there.

Additional Icelandia guests are travelling around Iceland to experience the event. The company is also operating smaller tours in super jeeps, along with a special glacier hike to the eclipse on Snæfellsjökull.
