Capital-area police have arrested 11 people in connection with the death of a man who was attacked in Vallargerði on Kársnes, mbl.is reports. Police have not ruled out a link to organised crime but indicate that the attack was not random.
“Of course, this is not the wrong man in the wrong house,” chief superintendent Agnes Eide Kristínardóttir said.
Two of those arrested were abroad, each in a different European country. Police have not disclosed the men’s connections to Iceland or whether they have previously stayed in the country.
Police believe an edged weapon was used in the attack, but no such weapon has been found. Investigators are awaiting a forensic pathologist’s conclusion on what caused the man’s death.
The deceased was a Polish citizen. Some of those arrested have been released, while others remain in custody as police take statements.
