People will gather at a golf course and at Ráðagerði near the Grótta lighthouse on Seltjarnarnes to watch the total eclipse, mbl.is reports. The eclipse will begin at about 5.48pm and last for just over a minute, with Seltjarnarnes expected to have the longest period of totality.
No golf will be played at the course from 2pm, according to Haukur Óskarsson, managing director of the Nesklúbburinn golf club. Several club members will monitor the greens and protect the most sensitive parts of the course.
“We do not know whether ten people or 5,000 will come. But we will be ready in any case,” Óskarsson told mbl.is.
The golf clubhouse will remain open during the eclipse, with food and drinks available both indoors and outdoors. Toilets will also be provided around the course, and all lights will be switched off.
Ráðagerði is fully booked indoors, but the venue has arranged party tents over its outdoor tables and will also provide a garden pavilion. Owner Viktor Már Kristjánsson said the arrangements could create space for around 60 to 70 additional people.
The outdoor tables cannot be reserved and will be available on a first come, first served basis. If large crowds arrive, the venue may also offer quick food such as pizzas or sandwiches.
