Aarhus stadium reaches construction milestone despite delays

Construction of Aarhus’s new stadium has reached a major milestone, with all columns and roof trusses now in place, DR reports. The stadium is set to become AGF’s future home.

The milestone is being marked with a traditional topping-out ceremony for the workers and others involved in the project. Lars Kring, one of the construction workers, said the event was worth celebrating because the project was nearing its final stages.

Much work remains before AGF can play Superliga matches there and large concerts can be held. “All the finishing work is missing,” said Kring’s colleague Preben Andersen, referring to the concrete finishing, gutters and interior work in the stands.

Stadium expected to open next April

The stadium project has been affected by delays and budget overruns. Despite this, AGF says on its website that the new stadium is expected to be inaugurated and opened in April next year. It is scheduled to be completed by March.

The tight schedule means a busy period ahead, but both workers said they were enjoying the project. Andersen said it was unusual to get the chance to help build a stadium that will be used for Superliga football.

The Danish Football Association has also promised that the stadium will host two national-team matches.
