Police seek extradition of 22-year-old in 15-year-old girl’s case

Southeast Jutland Police have asked Hungarian authorities to extradite a 22-year-old man to Denmark in connection with the case of a 15-year-old girl from Hedensted, DR reports.
The man is suspected of committing criminal offences against the girl. A legal process is now under way in Hungary, and no possible date for an extradition can currently be given, said Christian Skyt, deputy police inspector with Southeast Jutland Police.
A Hungarian court confirmed on Tuesday that the man had been remanded in custody. According to Hungarian police, he met the girl through social media and manipulated her because of her young age and lack of experience.
He is suspected of establishing a relationship with the girl with the intention of later committing sexual offences against her, according to a press release. The man was charged during a court hearing in Horsens on Friday, but DR cannot report the exact wording of the charges because a reporting ban has been imposed.
Danish police have declined to provide further details about the charges or say whether other people may be involved.
The girl was reportedly taken from Denmark to Hungary on 4 August. She was located two days later and reunited with her family on Sunday.
Police have not said whether she has been interviewed. Skyt said such an interview would naturally form part of the investigation, but he would not comment on specific investigative steps.
“Our task is to establish all the pieces, the entire journey and the motive behind it. At present, I cannot say more,” he said.
Police are using standard investigative methods, including examining physical and digital evidence and conducting interviews. Skyt said they were pleased that the girl had been found and reunited with her family.
Hungarian authorities said the extradition would take place only if Danish authorities could guarantee that any sentence would be served in the man’s home country rather than in Denmark. The Danish authorities have until 21 August to provide those guarantees.
