Damage halts new water pipeline project to Heimaey

Work to lay a new water pipeline from Landeyjasand to Heimaey has been halted after the pipeline was damaged overnight on Saturday, according to a statement from the municipality of Vestmannaeyjar, published by mbl.is.
Analysis and inspection work began immediately in cooperation with the specialists involved to assess the situation, the statement said.
The work has continued over the past few days, and officials are now awaiting a formal report from Subsea 7. The report is expected to confirm the precise cause and extent of the damage.
Installation of the new pipeline began on August 4.
