Faroese family in Bogotá prepares for aftershocks

A Faroese family in Bogotá is preparing for possible aftershocks after a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia, KVF reports. The family is safe, but the earthquake remains a major concern as authorities warn that further tremors may occur.

Rescue teams are racing to find survivors after the earthquake, which struck on Monday. More than 200 people have been found dead, according to CNN. The Colombian government has declared a national disaster, while several countries have offered assistance.

The earthquake’s epicentre was near San José del Palmar, about 240 kilometres west of Bogotá. Some of the worst-affected areas are difficult to reach, and aid has not yet arrived everywhere.

Rani Andrasson Skaalum is in Bogotá with his wife and their four sons. They are in Colombia for work with the OM organisation, and Skaalum and his wife work at a school in the capital that held its first public school day on Monday.

The family is doing well, but none of them had experienced an earthquake before. Although Bogotá was not badly affected, the earthquake has become a major concern across Colombia. The Skaalum family has prepared for the possibility of aftershocks.
