Mink traps remain empty after escape from Dalsbú

The situation has eased in Mosfellsbær after mink escaped from Dalsbú at the end of July, mbl.is reports. No mink has been caught in the traps for two days.

“Things have calmed down considerably. Nothing has come into the traps for two full days,” Mayor Hilmar Gunnarsson said.

Only one report of a mink was received overnight. According to Hilmar, it came from the valley, far from built-up areas.

“We have no confirmed cases in built-up areas at present. We still want people to continue reporting sightings,” he said.

Hilmar said he was optimistic about the outlook for the ecosystem in Mosfellsdalur, but cautioned against declaring victory too soon.

“You naturally do not dare to celebrate yet, but it looks as though we have managed to avert a major disaster,” he said.
