An unusually large number of private jets are waiting at Reykjavik Airport as visitors from around the world arrive for the solar eclipse, mbl.is reported.

Hjalti Þór Guðmundsson, co-owner of the Icelandic Flight Handling Company, said there had been an exceptional number of large aircraft bringing passengers to the airport. Some leave their passengers in Iceland and remain at the airport, while others depart immediately.

There have been between 20 and 35 private jet movements each day around the eclipse, Guðmundsson said.

Twelve aircraft were on the ramp when he spoke, with six more expected shortly and another due later in the evening.
