Iceland, private jets, solar eclipse

A large number of private jets are currently at Reykjavik Airport as the solar eclipse attracts visitors from around the world, mbl.is reports.

Hjalti Þór Guðmundsson, co-owner of the Icelandic Flight Handling Company, said unusually many large aircraft were arriving with passengers, either leaving them in Iceland or storing the aircraft at the airport.

“There are currently quite a number at the airport, and many aircraft that arrive and leave again immediately,” he said.

Hjalti said there had been 20 to 35 private-jet movements each day around the eclipse, making the past few days much busier than usual. Twelve aircraft were on the ramp where he was standing, with six more expected shortly and another due that evening.
