Police report no new developments in Dalsbú mink farm investigation

Police in the capital region have reported no new developments in the investigation into the release of minks from a farm at Dalsbú, mbl.is reports. No one has been detained, although police have received tips from the public after asking for information, video and other material that could help solve the case.

“There is nothing to report. This is simply under investigation,” Hjördís Sigurbjartsdóttir, an assistant chief of police, told mbl.is.

The incident began when a large number of minks were released from their cages at Dalsbú. It was the third break-in at a farm in a short period in which animals were let out. Earlier this summer, pigs were released at Stjörnugrís’s farm in Kjalarnes, while farmed birds were released at Reykjabú in Mosfellsveit, as was also the case at Dalsbú.

No one detained

Asked whether police had any leads they were pursuing, Hjördís said she could not comment beyond confirming that the case remained under investigation.

“We are working on some possibilities. There is simply nothing new. This is just under investigation,” she said.

She confirmed that no one was being held in connection with the case.

Police say cases are being investigated separately

Police have received some tips after appealing to the public, but the information is still being processed, Hjördís said.

She also said police could not yet say whether the incident was connected to the two other farm break-ins. The cases are being investigated separately, she said, and investigators are approaching them from a neutral standpoint.

The case is being investigated as both property damage and a break-in, according to Hjördís.
