A woman in her 50s was critically injured when an all-terrain vehicle left the road and overturned in Grenland, Telemark, Dagbladet reports.

Police said she was awake and conscious but appeared seriously injured. A rescue helicopter, operating as an air ambulance, was sent to the scene.

The woman was flown to Ullevål Hospital, police said in an update. She was considered critically injured because of possible back or neck injuries, but remained awake and conscious.

Police are examining the scene to establish what happened. Initial findings indicate that the vehicle may have been travelling at high speed, as there were brake marks at the scene.
