Search called off after missing boat found

A pleasure boat sought by Iceland’s Coast Guard and rescue teams was found off Syðra-Hraun, mbl.is reports. The boat and its two-person crew were safe.

Ásgeir Erlendsson, a spokesperson for the Coast Guard, said the search had become extensive by the time the boat was located. A Coast Guard helicopter was preparing to take off, while the Coast Guard aircraft TF-SIF was searching for the boat.

Sea rescue teams from the capital region, Kjalarnes and other locations had also begun searching. The operation was called off after the boat was found.

Erlendsson said the two people aboard apparently had not switched on or tuned their radio to channel 16, which rescuers had been using to try to contact them.
