Two investigations launched after Tuusula moped crash

Yle reports that Helsinki police are investigating a 15 year old boy on suspicion of aggravated endangerment of traffic safety, driving a vehicle without a licence and a vehicle offence after he was injured during a stop in Tuusula last Saturday.

Police said the two wheeled vehicle he was riding had no registration plate.

A police patrol was conducting traffic enforcement in the area when it spotted the vehicle shortly before 7 pm. The patrol tried to stop it, but the rider accelerated sharply and attempted to escape, according to police.

Police used their car to force the moped rider into a ditch. The rider then struck a roadside fence, which broke on impact.

An ambulance arrived and paramedics examined the rider at the scene. Police said the minor suffered minor injuries.

Iltalehti reported that the police officer may have been alone in the car.

Two preliminary investigations have been opened into the incident. Helsinki Police Department is investigating the rider’s actions, while the National Prosecution Authority’s police crime unit is investigating the police response during the stop.

Dozens of young people were present at a moped meet in the area.
