Police hold several after Kópavogur killing

Several people are in police custody on suspicion of involvement in the killing of a man at a detached house on Vallargerði in Kársnes, Kópavogur, on Sunday afternoon, mbl.is reports. The victim died at Landspítali hospital shortly afterwards.

A witness told mbl.is that two men dressed entirely in black ran towards the house shortly before the incident. They appeared to be adults with stocky builds and were also wearing baseball caps, the witness said. The men later ran away.

A red car was also seen on the street at the same time and appeared to be driving alongside the men.

One person was arrested soon after the incident. Several others were detained during a police operation near Gnoðarvogur in Reykjavík early on Sunday evening. The National Police Commissioner’s special unit was called in, and the street was closed to traffic.

Police searched vegetation at the scene after the arrests but declined to comment on the search. They said it was too early to determine whether the case was connected to a possible dispute in criminal circles.
