Hunting season opens for wood pigeons and geese

Hunting season for wood pigeons, greylag geese and Canada geese begins today, Yle reports.

Field hunting for greylag geese and Canada geese also starts today. The aim is to reduce crop damage caused by flocks of geese in fields where the harvest is sold or used as livestock feed.

Hunting the two goose species in water areas will begin on August 20, in line with the general waterfowl hunting season.

Among mammals, badger hunting began at the start of the month. Invasive alien predators such as mink and raccoon dogs may be hunted year-round.
