Saturday’s Pride parade in Reykjavík drew large crowds and a festive atmosphere, mbl.is reports. The parade began at Hallgrímskirkja church and continued down Skólavörðustígur and Bankastræti towards Hljómskálagarður park, where concerts were held.
Árni Friðleifsson, deputy chief of the traffic department of the Capital Region Police, said the event passed peacefully despite the large number of people in the city.
Photographer Birta Margrét Björgvinsdóttir attended the parade for mbl.is. The images show participants enjoying the event, with singer Páll Óskar, who is known for putting considerable effort into the parade, among those taking part.
Bishop Guðrún Karls Helgadóttir also joined the parade. Police officers were present to help ensure that the event proceeded smoothly.
