Suspects arrested after swimming from Lillesand cabin burglary

Two burglary suspects were arrested after swimming away from police on Ågerøya in Lillesand on Sunday morning, Dagbladet reports. Police received a report of an ongoing cabin break-in and were assisted by civilian boats during the operation.

A cabin owner went to the area by boat after a neighbour saw people trying to break into the cabin, police operations leader Frode Vang told Dagbladet. Police believe the suspects entered at least one cabin.

The situation escalated when the suspects allegedly threatened someone with a two-handed weapon at close range. Police sent a larger patrol to the area.

The suspects, a man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s, jumped into the water and swam away when officers arrived. At least two civilian boats transported police onto the water.

After about 30 minutes, the suspects were taken from the water and arrested. Both were treated by ambulance personnel for hypothermia but were otherwise believed to be uninjured. Police said both were already known to them.

Police do not yet know what may have been stolen or how many crime scenes are involved. They advised cabin owners in the area to check their cabins and contact police if anything is missing.

Police will now examine the crime scenes and speak to witnesses.
