Authorities advise avoiding area after wolf confronts runner

Authorities have advised people to avoid the Bunken Klitplantage area in North Jutland after a runner encountered an adult wolf and its pup on Friday, DR reports.

The adult wolf showed its teeth and raised the fur on its neck while protecting the pup. The runner tried to scare it away by shouting, and the adult wolf eventually withdrew, followed by the pup.

The Danish Agency for Green Land Transformation and Water Environment, SGAV, said people should stay away from the area “until the situation has been assessed further”. Experts from DCE at Aarhus University and the Natural History Museum Aarhus have assessed the incident and concluded that it was not dangerous. They said the wolf was acting to move the runner away from its pup.

Information signs will be put up in the area to direct visitors to alternative routes. Anyone who must enter the area is urged to exercise particular caution.

SGAV is asking people who have experienced close encounters with wolves in Bunken Klitplantage during the past month to contact the agency at [email protected] and provide documentation such as photographs or videos.
