There are significant benefits for the Faroe Islands if collaboration with Greenland is strengthened, according to Høgni Hoydal, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He is now advocating for the establishment of a Faroese embassy in Greenland.
“I have always believed that we should bolster our connection with Greenland, not only because we have historically maintained close ties, but also due to our shared interests,” emphasizes Hoydal.
He notes that substantial developments are currently taking place in Greenland, where airports are being built. He also mentions that Iceland has greatly benefited from opening an embassy in Greenland.
Hoydal adds that the first step in strengthening ties with Greenland has already been taken, as the Faroese representative in Iceland is also accredited to Greenland, meaning Greenland is included in its area of work.
“However, I think it would be much better to have an embassy in Greenland,” he concludes.
