Home sale price data disappears online as buyers seek alternatives

Individual completed home sale prices are no longer available on a website maintained by Finland’s Ministry of the Environment, Yle reports. Experts say buyers must now look elsewhere for reliable price comparisons and property information.

The Asuntojen hintatiedot website previously displayed the completed prices of individual home sales from the previous 12 months. The information was available across Finland at postal-code level.

The home sales data was removed in June 2026 after the agreement with the Central Federation of Finnish Real Estate Agencies, known as KVKL, expired.

The website is overseen by the Centre for State-Subsidised Housing Construction, Varke, which operates under the Ministry of the Environment. Varke director Sanna Hughes said the home sales section had provided information on around 25,000 completed sales each year and attracted about 40,000 visits a month.

“The removal of the section means that compiled information on completed home sales is no longer freely available,” Hughes said.

According to Hughes, prospective buyers can find price information on Statistics Finland’s website. Information about demand is also available through various property portals, while real estate agents can provide details of completed sale prices directly.

Juha Beurling-Pomoell, secretary general of the Consumers’ Union of Finland, said the removal was unfortunate, particularly in a falling market where the website had offered a useful overview of prices.

However, consumers can still assess a property in other ways, he said. Buyers should examine the property’s technical age and its overall price picture rather than focusing solely on the sale price.

“The property may appear cheaper now because an upcoming renovation will increase its unencumbered price,” Beurling-Pomoell said.

Tuomas Viljamaa, chief executive of KVKL, said the agreement had been terminated for specific reasons. He said it had put the federation’s members in an unequal position and that there were suspicions that the price data had been used commercially in breach of the agreement’s terms.

KVKL is planning a new website where compiled information on completed home sale prices would be available in the future, Viljamaa said.

Information on rental homes and right-of-occupancy homes remains available on the Asuntojen hintatiedot website.

Yle has previously reported that an increasing number of people are trying to sell their homes without an agent, partly because of weak price development in the housing market.
