Dead wild boar found in Lappeenranta as testing pending

A dead wild boar has been found in Joutseno, part of the city of Lappeenranta, Finnish broadcaster Yle reports, citing newspaper Etelä-Saimaa.

The Finnish Food Authority has not yet tested the animal for African swine fever. Etelä-Saimaa reports that there is no information on when the test results will be ready.

Joutseno, in South Karelia, is not currently within the defined infection zone.

The Food Authority detected African swine fever in wild boars in Virolahti, in the Kymenlaakso region, on July 30.

The authority and local hunters are searching forests in the infection zone this week for the carcasses of any additional dead wild boars.
