Tingbjerg residents meet to rebuild trust after unrest

Residents of Tingbjerg, a Copenhagen district, met on Tuesday to discuss community, safety and the way forward after recent unrest, DR reported. The gathering was organised as a peaceful demonstration under the slogan “Tingbjerg stands together”.

The meeting followed several incidents in the district, including rubbish-container fires, after a young man was shot by police.

Organised at one day’s notice, the meeting took place outside the local community hall, which has also recently been affected by fire. Residents spoke in groups about how to strengthen solidarity in a calm and respectful way and find a common voice.

Martin Ejlersen, chairman of a local residents’ board, said he was pleased the meeting had been organised.

“I hope people can see that most people here want the best for Tingbjerg. The unfortunate things happen when a few ruin it for many,” he said.

Ejlersen said he planned to organise more community meetings, including meetings focused on safety. He said the gathering had helped him make contact with other Tingbjerg residents and would support efforts to create an open and safe district.
