Underage riders injured in illegal moped gathering in Seinäjoki

Two underage riders were injured at an illegal moped gathering in Seinäjoki on Saturday evening, Yle reports. One sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Ostrobothnia Police Department.

Hundreds of young people had gathered on a forklift route in the Roves industrial area.

According to police, an underage light motorcycle rider was performing a wheelie when they lost control and fell from the vehicle. The motorcycle continued into the lane for oncoming traffic and collided with an underage moped rider.

The moped rider suffered serious injuries, while the light motorcycle rider was less seriously injured.

Police are investigating the light motorcycle rider for aggravated endangerment of traffic safety and aggravated causing of injury. The rider was also banned from driving.

Police received reports of other illegal moped gatherings in different parts of the Ostrobothnia police district over the weekend. Officers urged young people not to attend such events and asked guardians to discuss where their children travel, what events they attend and how they behave in traffic.

Police stressed that public roads are not places for wheelies, racing or other stunts.
