Petra Mårselius appointed new Discrimination Ombudsman

Petra Mårselius will become the new Discrimination Ombudsman, SVT reports. The appointment was announced by Minister for Gender Equality Nina Larsson of the Liberals at a press conference.

Mårselius succeeds Lars Arrhenius, who announced in March that he planned to leave the position after six years.

In December last year, Arrhenius accused the government of being dismissive in its work to develop new legislation. He had opposed, among other measures, a lower age of criminal responsibility, stricter requirements for family immigration and visitation zones.

Mårselius previously served as secretary to the Gender Equality Inquiry from 2014 to 2015. Most recently, she was director-general of the Forum for Living History.
