Men in their fifties with higher education are the most common owners of companies removed from Finland’s trade register following a sale, according to a report by Yle and the Research Institute of the Finnish Economy, Etla.

The report examined companies removed from the trade register because of a sale between 2006 and 2021. It covered limited companies and other firms that employed at least 20 person-years in the year they exited the register.

Many people who sell their companies do not leave the business world. Instead, they continue as owners or take board or executive positions in other companies, the report found.
