Minister vows equal rights for people with alcohol-related dementia

Margit Stórá, the minister for social affairs, is beginning work to ensure that people with alcohol-related dementia receive the same services as others, Kringvarp Føroya reports.

All people with dementia, regardless of whether they were above or below the age of 67, were given equal rights in an agreement reached last December. However, people with alcohol-related dementia were excluded.

When the legislation was introduced last year, Stórá, who was then the minister for health, recommended that no distinction be made. The decision was instead taken by the Ministry of Social Affairs, which chose a different approach.

Stórá now oversees social affairs herself.
