More than 100 join search for missing Bergen man

More than 100 people are taking part in the search for a missing man in his late 60s in Bergen, Dagbladet reports.

The search resumed in daylight on Sunday, according to Knut Dahl-Michelsen, operations leader for the Western Police District. The Norwegian Armed Forces are providing 50 personnel and five leaders.

Those involved include eight teams from Norwegian Search and Rescue Dogs, 30 Red Cross searchers, two all-terrain vehicles, three drones, one rope team, one drone from Norwegian People’s Aid and 27 Civil Defence personnel.

The search is focused on Fløyen, a mountain area in Bergen. Police said the operation would continue through the morning.

The man was last seen on Fløyen at around 1pm on Wednesday. His family reported him missing on Thursday, and the search began on Friday evening.

Police said the man does not have dementia or a mental illness and are asking the public to provide any information that could help locate him. Search teams have so far looked on Fløyen, in Bergen and in the city’s mountain areas.

“We still hope to find him alive. We will continue to keep up the effort today,” Dahl-Michelsen told NRK.
