Director films Faroese communal singing tradition

Kringvarp Føroya reports that director Gudmund Helmsdal is making a documentary about Faroese communal singing, including the midnight singing at this year’s Ólavsøka.

Helmsdal describes the project as a creative documentary about Faroese singing culture. “I almost want to compose the feeling of Faroese communal singing,” he says.

Some people who attended the midnight singing two days ago may already appear in the footage. Those who did not attend this year will have another opportunity to take part, as further filming is planned for next year.

Helmsdal is also asking people who recorded the event on their phones to contact him. “I would also like to include the popular side of it,” he says.
