A payment processing fault at Lidl Finland caused some customers to be charged twice for Visa card purchases, the supermarket chain confirmed.

The issue stemmed from a malfunction in the system of payment service provider Verifone, according to Lidl. Around 200 cases of overcharging were reported to the company’s customer service between Sunday and Monday.

Lidl stated the fault was identified quickly and has since been resolved. The double charges were not limited to a specific store or region, with reports including the Jätkäsaari branch in Helsinki.

Refunds for the erroneous charges have been processed and should appear in customers’ accounts within the next few banking days. Lidl’s customer service is assisting affected customers with any further inquiries.
