Man in his 20s killed in Aurland traffic collision

A man in his 20s died in a collision between a car and a truck on the E16 road between Gudvangatunnelen and Flenjatunnelen in Aurland, Vestland, Dagbladet reports.

Emergency services responded to the scene shortly after 01:45 on Thursday. The driver of the car was freed from the vehicle and treated by medical personnel, while the truck driver was physically unharmed, according to Morten Rebnord, operations manager at Vest police district.

Police said the car was traveling eastbound toward Flåm when it crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with the truck. Investigators from the police and the Norwegian Public Roads Administration remain at the scene.

The road is expected to remain closed for approximately three hours, with a detour via national road 7 (Hardangervidda). The victim’s next of kin have been notified.
