Trine Rein denies tick-borne illness claims

Trine Rein has strongly denied a front-page story in Se og Hør suggesting she and her husband, Lars Monsen, are facing a new tick-borne illness ordeal.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday evening, Rein called the magazine’s headline—“Familien i nytt flåttmareritt” (“The family in a new tick nightmare”)—a “direct lie.” She stated that neither she nor Monsen are currently suffering from any such illness, nor have they raised any alarm, as implied by the cover line “Kjendisene slår alarm” (“Celebrities sound the alarm”).

The article in question primarily covers Kathrine Sørland’s experiences with tick-borne disease, with additional mention of her husband, Andreas Holck, who fell ill earlier this year.

Rein criticised the magazine for using a nearly 16-year-old photo of her and Monsen and presenting a 14-year-old case as breaking news. Monsen was seriously ill with Lyme disease after a tick bite in 2011, a story previously reported by multiple outlets.

“We are as healthy as a farmed fish,” Rein wrote, advising her followers not to waste money on the issue. She added that Monsen is currently unreachable, which the magazine should be “grateful for.”

Se og Hør editor-in-chief Niklas Kokkinn-Thoresen told Dagbladet the magazine accepts criticism but stressed the issue was with the cover image placement, not the article itself. He encouraged readers to judge the story for themselves.

Both Se og Hør and Dagbladet are owned by Aller Media, though their editorial operations are independent.
