Faroese government plans hundreds of new apartments

The Faroese government has launched a project to build hundreds of new apartments in the capital Tórshavn, with the first phase set to begin near the national hospital along Heygsvegur, according to housing minister Margit Stórá.

In addition to existing plans for apartments at Eirargarður, another hundred units are now slated for construction in the Havn district next year. The state will provide the land, offsetting part of the cost, though the total expense remains undetermined, Stórá said.

Prime Minister Beinir Johannesen stated that initial steps are underway to develop a new residential area with hundreds of homes, following models seen in neighboring countries. Stórá added that this initiative aims to secure housing stability.
