Loviisa nuclear plant annual maintenance begins Sunday

Annual maintenance at the Loviisa nuclear power plant will start this Sunday, operator Fortum announced. The plant’s two units will undergo staggered servicing, with unit two first and unit one to follow. While one unit is under maintenance, the other will continue normal electricity production.

Unit two will receive an extensive overhaul, conducted every eight years, while unit one’s maintenance will be shorter. Fortum stated that several modernization projects to extend the plant’s operational life will also begin during the maintenance period.

The work is scheduled to finish after mid-October.
