Finnish public broadcaster Yle is reporting on the phenomenon of “school shopping,” where parents select a school for their child other than the nearest one in their residential area.

Parents often aim to enroll their children in schools with strong reputations or special focuses, such as languages or music. In some cases, families may even move to a new area to access a preferred school if their local option is unsatisfactory.

Yle invites parents who have chosen a non-local school for their child to share their experiences for an upcoming feature. Responses can be submitted via an online form or by contacting reporter Janette Leino at [email protected]. All submissions will be used only with permission, and contact details will not be shared outside the editorial team.
