Funeral set for Norwegian teen killed in Spain

Nikoline Piwoni Høie, 17, of Arendal, Norway, will be buried on Friday after dying in a hit-and-run collision in Marbella, Spain, earlier this month, family spokesperson Finn Greve-Isdahl told Dagbladet.

Høie was struck by a vehicle on the A-7 motorway near Mijas in the early hours of 6 July, shortly after celebrating Norway’s World Cup victory over Brazil. Police arrived at the scene around 05:30, estimating the collision occurred about 20 minutes earlier. Her body was found roughly 30 kilometres from the Funky Buddha nightclub.

The driver did not stop. A Spanish man in his 40s was arrested on 13 July after damage consistent with the incident was found on his car, but he was released two days later when surveillance footage cleared him of responsibility, according to Spanish newspaper SUR. Authorities have not announced other suspects.

Grev-Isdahl confirmed Høie’s body has been returned to Norway. The funeral at Trefoldighetskirken in Arendal on 31 July at 10:00 will be open to the public. The family, he said, remains deeply affected but wishes to thank those who have offered support.
