A preliminary investigation into a gynaecologist who performed unnecessary hysterectomies and ovary removals on six women at Skaraborg Hospital has been closed, according to a report by Swedish Radio P4 Skaraborg.
The doctor, who lost his job following the cases, was sharply criticised earlier this year by the Health and Social Care Inspectorate (Ivo) for acting incorrectly. However, prosecutors concluded that it could not be established beyond doubt in criminal law that his actions deviated from medical science and proven experience.
The decision to drop the investigation was made by the prosecutor leading the criminal probe.
