Berlin attack leaves one dead, multiple injured

A car rammed into a crowd at Berlin Pride late Saturday, killing at least one person and injuring several others, Danish public broadcaster DR reports.

Niels Christian Aahøj Bech, chair of LGBTQ+ Sønderborg, was dining with friends at a restaurant near the scene when the attack occurred around 22:00. He described the sudden shift from celebration to panic as emergency vehicles rushed past.

“We could feel something had happened, and then we were told to leave the Pride area,” Bech said. Rumours spread that the attacker remained at large, leaving crowds looking over their shoulders as they fled toward trains and Berlin’s S-Bahn.

“It’s shocking. The whole atmosphere changed,” he said. “Everyone was looking around, afraid the attacker was still out there.”

Bech called the incident a stark reminder of the need to keep fighting for LGBTQ+ rights. “This shows how important it is for us to keep pushing for our rights. It’s also a call to politicians to continue supporting the Pride movement.”
