Vietnamese taxi firm enters Denmark with 590 electric vehicles

A Vietnamese taxi company has brought nearly 600 turquoise electric taxis to Denmark, set to begin operations on 30 July, according to a report by TV2 cited by DR.

The vehicles belong to Green SM, a Vietnamese firm linked to car manufacturer VinFast. The 590 taxis are currently stored in an industrial area in Avedøre ahead of their launch.

Green SM has advertised fixed monthly salaries of 29,000 DKK for drivers, with a bonus scheme, based on a 37-hour workweek. Gert Mark, chair of the taxi industry association ATAX, called the terms groundbreaking, noting the company prioritises driver pay over customer discounts—a reversal of industry norms.

Jørn Hedengran, a negotiator for the 3F Transport union, welcomed the move, describing the fixed 8-hour workday and salary structure as a positive shift. While 3F has engaged in dialogue with Green SM, the company has not joined an employer association. Hedengran said the union is cautiously optimistic but will wait to see how the pay and working hours hold up once operations begin.

Green SM has previously stated plans to hire up to 3,000 drivers, though Hedengran doubts this is feasible given the existing driver shortage. Gert Mark, however, believes the competitive pay could attract drivers from firms with poorer conditions, potentially forcing Danish companies to improve their own terms.

DR sought comment from Green SM’s Danish management but was declined.
