South Korea is moving to deepen trade relations with the Faroe Islands, according to the islands’ foreign and fisheries minister, Bárður á Steig Nielsen.

Speaking to Faroese broadcaster KVF, Nielsen cited rapid exchanges—including a Faroese trade mission to South Korea in June and subsequent visits by South Korean officials—as clear signs of mutual commitment to cooperation.

South Korea has shown particular interest in purchasing Faroese seafood, while the Faroe Islands are initially pursuing tariff exemptions for selected fish products. The long-term goal, Nielsen said, is to negotiate a free trade agreement between the two.
