Hospital staff save couple’s diamond wedding with last-minute celebration
Staff at Vejle Hospital stepped in to rescue a couple’s diamond wedding anniversary after the wife was admitted the day before, Danish broadcaster DR reports.
Anna Rigmor and Svend Aage Hansen had planned to celebrate 60 years of marriage on 23 July, but her hospitalisation threatened to derail the milestone. Without the couple’s knowledge, medical ward staff organised a surprise celebration in the hospital’s conference room, complete with an honour guard, flowers, and sparkling wine.
The room was decorated with signs, flags, and a ceremonial arch. Ten guests, including family and friends, joined for coffee, cake, and champagne to mark the occasion.
“It was truly moving,” Anna Rigmor Hansen said. Her husband added: “We never expected anything like this. What the hospital did was wonderful.”
