Swedish crown princess and prince to visit Vaasa in August

Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel will visit Vaasa on 21 August to mark the 250th anniversary of the Vaasa Court of Appeal, Yle reports.

The royal couple will arrive in the morning for a one-hour visit to the court. The crown princess will plant a tree in the Court of Appeal Park to commemorate the anniversary and the visit.

At 12:30, they will walk from the court to the park, where they will greet the public. From there, they will travel to Vaskiluoto to visit Wärtsilä’s technology centre and learn about developments in carbon-neutral shipping and energy production. The visit will conclude with a lunch hosted by the city at the Governor’s House.

The Vaasa Court of Appeal was founded by King Gustav III in 1775 and began operations on 21 August 1776, making it the second court of appeal in Finland after Turku.

Vaasa last hosted royal visitors in 2006, when King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia attended the city’s 400th anniversary celebrations.
