Unemployed in Faroes gain paid leave from benefits

Unemployed residents receiving benefits from the Faroese Labour Market Fund (ALS) can now take paid leave from their unemployment support, the fund has announced.

The entitlement mirrors the paid leave system for employed workers, allowing full-time unemployed individuals to accrue 2.08 days of leave per month. This totals 25 paid leave days per year.

The policy took effect on 1 April 2025, meaning those unemployed for the past year can now use their accrued leave during the summer.
