World medieval combat championship begins in Denmark

The 2026 World Medieval Combat Championship opened Thursday at Spøttrup Borg in Denmark, featuring full-contact re-enactment of historical martial arts.

The sport permits strikes with weapons and shields, punches, kicks and grappling, often resulting in bruises and facial injuries. Organisers have arranged on-site medical support, including an ambulance, to handle potential incidents.

The Danish national team is among the competitors taking part in the event.
