A Coast Guard helicopter was en route from Ísafjörður to Reykjavik in the late afternoon with two patients on board when an emergency call was received about two kayakers in distress. The kayakers were struggling at Skildinganes and had drifted away from shore. The helicopter quickly redirected to the scene, lifting the kayakers aboard just minutes after the emergency call was made. According to a Coast Guard spokesperson, the fact that the helicopter was already in the air and close to the incident site was crucial for the operation. The helicopter landed at Landspítalinn around 7 p.m., delivering the patients alongside the kayakers, who were cold and shaken but otherwise uninjured.
