Ranuan eläinpuisto evacuated after escaped wild boar

The Ranua Zoo in Finland has been evacuated after a wild boar escaped its enclosure, Ilta-Sanomat reports.

The zoo, normally open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., was closed early due to the incident. A zoo spokesperson said further updates would be provided, but no information has been released yet.

Police in Oulu confirmed that an animal operation is underway in Ranua and remains ongoing.

Wild boars can pose a danger if injured, according to Mervi Kunnasranta, a researcher at the Natural Resources Institute Finland, who told Yle in 2022 that healthy boars generally avoid humans.
