Regional trains replaced by buses for four extra days after chaos

Passengers traveling between Odense and Fredericia next week must prepare for delays after regional and some InterCity trains will not resume service until Friday, July 31, instead of Monday, July 27.

The extension follows a decision by the Danish Road Directorate and Danish State Railways (DSB) to postpone the reopening of tracks after severe disruptions earlier in the week. Replacement buses will operate between the regions for four additional days, the Road Directorate announced in a press release.

The delays stemmed from an acute postponement of track work, which made it difficult to secure enough replacement buses. The disruption left many travelers stranded, with long queues for available buses and passengers arriving late for commitments.

Søren Andersen, area manager at the Danish Road Directorate, acknowledged the earlier situation was regrettable and said the authorities have revised the timeline with contractors to avoid a repeat.

“We were all very sorry about the situation on Tuesday morning. That’s why we’re extending the period so travelers can be sure of their transport options,” Andersen said.
