Faroese rowers seek equal fishing-day allocation

The rowing clubs of Suðurstreymoyar Útróðrarfelag have called for the same fishing-day quotas as other rowing associations.

In a statement on Wednesday, Jógvan Trondesen Andreasen, chair of Suðurstreymoyar Útróðrarfelag (SÚF), said the clubs had long argued for parity in fishing-day allocations and now sought to align with other rowing groups.

Andreasen cited the collapse in 2023 of an agreement on redistributing fishing days under the experimental fishing rules. At that time, the national government reduced the fishing-day tally by 20 per cent—about four times the amount allowed under the rules, which cap annual changes to a maximum of 5 per cent up or down. The 2023 cut left the clubs in cluster 5B without the fishing days they had been promised, Andreasen confirmed.
