Krokstadelva fire, police investigation, suspect status

Police investigating a major fire in Krokstadelva have named one suspect and outlined several hypotheses about its origin.

The blaze caused extensive damage in the community, though no one has been reported missing. One person has been questioned and now holds suspect status, police confirmed in a statement on Wednesday.

“When investigating fires, anyone who was in or connected to the area where the fire started may be considered a suspect,” said police prosecutor Nina Fladhus. She declined to discuss details of the interview.

Police are pursuing multiple theories, including a possible violation of Norway’s penal code paragraph 356, which addresses reckless endangerment of the public. Investigators stressed the inquiry remains in its early stages and have not yet decided whether to formally charge the suspect.

Police urged anyone who may have been near the scene during the fire to come forward.
